Rosebud Coffee: Where Coffee, Art, and Culture Meet

Rosebud Coffee: Where Coffee, Art, and Culture Meet

We are very pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting artwork at Rosebud Coffee in Pasadena starting June 2024. The café developed from a small coffee cart, lovingly named Rosebud. For years, Rosebud traveled around LA, empowering homeless and transitional-aged youth as they practiced their newfound craft - serving an amazing cup of coffee. Rosebud’s work evolved to establish a permanent café in Pasadena, Rosebud Coffee, which was named after the coffee cart.

Located on East Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, Rosebud Coffee has become an outstanding community hub that not only serves great coffee and delicious pastries but also trains Transitional Age Youth (TAY) in soft employment skills prior to placing them in internships at Rosebud Coffee and other local businesses.

Their soft skills training covers professionalism, hospitality, communication, and other key workplace skills. Their aim is to equip youth with the skills needed to secure permanent employment and empower them to pursue their career goals. Youth interns placed at Rosebud Coffee are trained in the craft of coffee. The training is done in accordance with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCA), and includes palate development, various brewing methods, and drink preparation.

We are honored and very much looking forward to exhibiting artists in such a great facility that is not only positively embedded in the community but also serves coffee with a cause. The exhibition space is being updated with a fresh coat of paint, a new art hanging system is being installed, and gallery-style lighting will be integrated as well. We have several artists lined up and more information will be available as we get closer to the first exhibition!

The baristas at Rosebud Coffee

Rosebud Coffee represents a unique type of art exhibition space outside of a traditional art gallery, commonly known as a "third space" - environments that exist outside the realms of home (first space) and work (second space). These third spaces are often characterized by their informal and communal nature, and their significance in society lies in their ability to foster social cohesion, community building, and a sense of belonging. Moreover, third spaces often serve as incubators for creativity, innovation, and civic engagement. Aside from cafes such as Rosebud Coffee, restaurants, wine bistros, and hotel lobbies can also be considered third spaces that play a role in S7CAG's ability to be involved with communities while supporting both emerging and established artists.

Because S7CAG is involved with so many artists, spanning a wide spectrum of careers from emerging artists to more established ones, third spaces such as Rosebud Coffee offer a unique exhibition space for art. This allows those who may be first-time exhibitors an opportunity to develop their catalog, gain experience in the exhibition process, and showcase their work in an informal setting. Meanwhile, more experienced artists can have a local space to exhibit artwork in a casual setting within their community, while still benefiting from the art exhibition facilitation that S7CAG provides artists. This gives a wide range of artists the chance to share their talents with neighbors, family, and friends who may not otherwise experience their artwork. As S7CAG's online presence expands, pop-up galleries emerge, and while future endeavors include establishing a traditional art gallery exhibition space, third spaces such as Rosebud Coffee play a significant role in showcasing a wide variety of quality artwork that buyers can proudly collect in a communal and informal setting.

Rosebud Coffee and Wild Parrot Brewing Company

Rosebud Coffee shares the building with Wild Parrot Brewing Company, Pasadena’s newest brewery, with lagers and ales brewed right in their taproom. A selection of pub-style food options is also available. The brewery is family-friendly and includes an outdoor patio that is pet-friendly. Plenty of free parking is available in the rear of the building, and it's only a 15-minute walk or 5-minute bike ride from Allen Station on the Metro A Line (blue).

Rosebud Coffee is located at 2302 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, California and is open Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 4pm and Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.
